Litfuse Book Review- Wish You Were Here

About The Book:

"Allison Denman is supposed to get married in five days, but everything is all wrong. The huge wedding. The frothy dress. And the groom.

Still, kissing the groom’s brother in an unguarded moment is decidedly not the right thing to do. How could she have made such a mistake? It seems Allison’s life is nothing but mistakes at this point. And pulling a “Runaway Bride” complete with stealing, er, borrowing her best friend’s car doesn’t seem to solve her problems.

Can Allison find her way out of this mess? Maybe she just needs to stop orchestrating everything. Allison prefers being the one in control, and giving it up is not going to be easy. But to find her way again, she will have to believe that God has a plan for her and find the strength to let Him lead."

My Review:

Wish You Were Here is a contemporary novel about a runaway bride. Now that is totally different! Beth created a very pleasant array of characters. Allison, Daniel, and Seth were very complex and emotional characters, which I enjoyed. They experienced many different conflicting emotions separately and towards one another adding depth into this story.

Beths’ writing style was very nice to read, it mirrored Rachel Haucks’ writing to me. I definitely enjoyed the suspense factor that was included in the story. I was totally on pins and needles wondering what was going to happen with the runaway bride.

Even though I enjoyed Beths’ writing style, I did not really like the story plot. I know that fiction allows the author free range to do whatever she wants, but fiction titles are usually stories that are relatable. I have never heard a bride having to choose between two men, especially two brothers. The situation was just weird. I felt that the characters were not truly ministered at the end, leaving some hurt and others in the limbo. I also did not like the ending, it was not truly finished in my opinion.

Despite these factors Wish You Were Here was an overall pleasant read. I would give this book a 3.9 out of 5.

I received this book, for free from Litfuse Publicity, in exchange for my honest review.
