Glamorous Illusions: Book Review & Free Ebook

About the Book:

It was the summer of 1913, and Cora Kensington's life on the family farm has taken a dark turn. Not only are the crops failing, so is her father's health. Cora is carrying on, helping her mother run their Montana farm until a stranger comes to call, and everything changes. Cora then learns a secret that will radically change her future: she is the illegitimate daughter of a copper king who has come to claim her.

Cora is invited to take the "Grand Tour" of Europe, a journey intended to finish a person's education, to solidify an understanding of ancient culture and contemporary refinement. As she travels from England to France with half-siblings she's never known, Cora encounters the blessings of the Kensington family name, as well as the curses. But when an unbidden love begins to form, she realizes the journey is only beginning.

Faced with the challenge of accepting her father, new family, and the identity that comes with it, Cora also struggles to accept that she is also the daughter of the one true King-a Father who is the only One who can truly heal.

My Review:

Glamorous Illusions was one grand book to read. We have a simple farm girl, Cora, who is used to a life of simplicity experiencing the change of her life. From one day to another she finds out she is the daughter of copper king, Wallace Kensington. Everything  she knew, all that she is, was all a lie. With this new realization, Cora has the entire world at her reach, if she would only embrace her new prestigious name. As she embarks on the Grand Tour that will take her throughout Europe she is faced with sneers from her new siblings, humiliation from others, friendship in the young tour guide, Will, adventure, romance, and even a spiritual tour on her true identity.

It was adventurous to travel with Cora on this Grand Tour, that only few upper class people could make. We traveled through Europe and France, visiting museums, dancing in fancy balls, climbing the Eiffel Tower and learning many new things. I did say we, Lisa wrote with such vivid descriptions that it felt like you were on the tour yourself. I could easily picture the busy streets, the voluptuous dresses, the juicy tender steaks and so on. On this tour there is much to do and much to see, without the authors meticulous descriptions the book would have been very dull.

Though the book focuses on the physical journey and tour that Cora makes around Europe, the book went deeper into the spiritual tour she made. Cora has always been a level headed girl, with a humble back round and firm conviction of who she is. Now that her world has been flipped over she is not sure what to believe anymore. We travel with Cora as she begins to let vanity get to her, we see how the Lord humbles her, her emotional journey of whose she is and most importantly who she is in Jesus Christ.

Lisa's rich historical and physical descriptions made this book a very worthwhile and great read. Her continuous action scenes, a ship during a storm, a horse race gone wrong, a punch to the wrong man, flipping over the Eiffel tower, and even a hostage scene a few just to speak of, made this book a definite page turner. As always my favorite part of the book was the deep relationship Cora had with Jesus Christ, what a refreshing aspect to the already great read.

I give Glamorous Illusions a 5 out of 5 for being a simply glamorous read!
