My Review:
This book is primarily geared towards mothers and those wanting to control their financial situation not 14 year olds. However, I found this book to be very beneficial. I was able to glean some very useful information to apply to both my spiritual and future financial life.
One of my favorite tips Crystal shared was to set goals. She focused on setting big and long time goals then breaking them into bite sized, realistic, doable short time goals. Though the goals she was talking about dealt more with finances, they could very well be applied to making spiritual goals. Goals are not your ongoing never ending to do list. Goals are things you want to accomplish to keep you on track, give you accountability, meaning, and momentum without making you feel guilty of the unaccomplished.
Another great tip that the author shared and that I am currently implementing is how to eliminate your debt "faster". She starts with the whole lump sum of debt, then divides the number by how many months she wants the debt to be paid off. She then further divides that number by 4 for the number of weeks in a month. Yes, I know what you are thinking, "How can an unemployed 14 year old have debt." Actually, I do not. I am using this method towards how much money I still need to earn for my much wanted camera. By using this method I know how much money I need at the end of each week to reach my goal at my desired time. This is another way to break down your major goal to bite sized pieces. One of my favorite things that she said was to think of long time goals and not live for the moment, meaning splurging unnecessarily. This helps to see if you are truly determined to stick to your goal.
Crystal has done a wonderful job in making the strategies easy, fun, and very realistic. If you think she is going to recommend you using cloth toilet paper and candles instead of light bulbs, you are wrong. She takes you through easy step by step changes. Starting with making goals, to de-cluttering your home, making a time budget, menu planning, and much more. Although I heard this as an audiobook, which I liked because I could listen as I was in the car, cleaning, and moving about, I would recommend it in a print version so you can highlight and look back for future reference. Other than that I would recommend this book to all readers, those drowning in debt, those trying to survive until the next pay check, and even those who do not have any debt. This book shows young people the importance of not getting into debt.
